Do you think everything in life including success, achievement, or mobility can be reduced to whoever has the upper hand? Why or why not? Do you think we overestimate the clout that having the "upper hand" can give?

Technically whoever has the upper hand will be successful. If the underdog is successful then it's just a matter of all of his qualitys were not take into consideration, the underdog had the upper hand but it was not identified.

Success is being happy and healthy

There are lots of rich and powerful people who live lives of paranoia, stress and isolation

They might have the 'upper hand' in the influence stakes but i wouldn't trade places with them

Lots of people complain about their asshole boss at work but who wants their position? Who wants that stress and isolation?

many of the things we are conditioned to aspire to by hollywood and other media like fame and materialist excess are in fact poisoned chalices; hollywood is full of desperately unhappy people

if you have managed to be healthy and happy then frankly you have got the upper hand on the game of life and that's what's important....that's the game to play imo

Modesty is a key to happiness, but also a reflection of our own potential. If one hunter is stronger and faster than the other one, it is only natural of him to expect of himself to catch a better pray than his weaker counterpart.

People need obstacles to thrive and meet their true potential. If the obstacle is too low then we start to feel frustration. For Hollywood actors they have nothing to hope for since they already have all they ever dreamed of.
