What's your view about the ubiquitous nature of recording?

The means of recording individuals is no longer restricted to states or even well monied individuals or businesses but to anyone, most mobile phones come with cameras as standard and even where people are not really camera users they may not consider buying a phone if it did not have the standard or an advanced camera feature, mobile phones can also work as dictaphones and it is a feature which with the possibility of using memory cards etc. can permit much more record time than cassettes would have with the previous technology.

What do you think are the main implications and consequences of recording habits, their development, maintence and consequence? Do you believe they are on the whole positive or negative? Would you like to be casually recorded in your working or leisure life? Is it something you have ever thought about before?

Is it different if it is the authorities or private individuals? Is it concerning only when it is utilised or exploited by the powerful or does the ability to record things confer power in and of itself? I know that there are a lot of people who believe that it does, particularly when the deal with others (usually those who are not that conscious about how their interaction with others is failing).
