The New Heraldry

S

Shai Gar

Personal Coat of Arms

The old heraldry was for those whose ancestors were murderers and thieves with enough gall to make themselves into either kings or lords. All the symbols have their own meanings, but the old shields were only able to be past down from eldest surviving son, to eldest surviving son. The new heraldry is all about creating your own personal crest that shows who YOU are, and is simple enough to tell at a glance who you are.

What would you make yours?
Think about it, take all the time in the world, and post a picture along with an explanation of the entire Coat of Arms.

This is all about Symbolism.

Fields Matter.
Colours Matter.
Charges Matter.
Placement Matters.

Change anything, and you change the entire meaning.

I am thinking about making the sigil a bit darker in the bottom one, and using that.
Made with MSPaint.

In case you thought you couldn't make your own.

Like this, but nicer...

ShaiGar_CoatofArms_002.png

Purple = Majesty
Gold = Generosity
Field of Purple with Golden Arrowheads
Sigil = Sigil of Baphomet, the symbol of the church of satan
Boar = Bravery, Fights to Death
Arrowheads = Martial Readiness.

That's the Shield, I've not finished the entire Coat of Arms...
Two Supporters, Cat (Liberty and Vigilance) and Fox (Using Wit to Win)
a Rook in place of a Helmet, and a Crown around the base of the Rook, in Platinum.

Oooh, loverly. So, I see a boar/pig, and a goat in the star... Why no cat? Don't you think you should have a cat? Can't quite make out what the five symbols around the star are, or the symbol making up the background pattern.

Must try one of my own...

this is awesome!! i am making one now!

OK, here it is...Not perfect but It was fun...I may try another.

I dont know if it has all the required aspects but I thought it was complete...I dont really know how I feel about the quills...but well see.

Colors
Black - Constancy, grief
White - Peace and sincerity.

Phoenix - symbolism of new beginnings.
Griffin - Valor, strength, and intelligence.

Its probably not what you had in mind, but I had fun with it!

In high school my inventive INFJ teacher inspired us to design such things for ourselves. I don't remember what I made exactly, but I'm sure it had an open book and the sun.

http://www.heraldryclipart.com/symbolism/b.html

BOOK: If open, symbolizes manifestation

SUN: Is usually borne in its glory, or splendour; associated with Helios, the young Greek god of the sun; revered by many cultures as a token and ensign of power, glory, illumination, vitality, and the source of life on earth.

--both match the ENFP character very well.

I may try now to design a new one. Those here are really nice, well done!

Here's my personal coat of arms:

That's a hummingbird in the middle. I know it is kind of a pansy-ass coat of arms, but I don't care, I like it! LOL

Green = Hope, Joy and Loyalty in Love
Yellow/Gold = Generosity and elevation of the mind
White = Peace & sincerity

The middle is a hummingbird, from North America.

Hummingbird: messenger, timelessness

Hummingbird - the tiniest of all birds - brings special messages for us. It is the only creature that can stop dead while traveling at full speed. It can hover, or can go forward, backward, up or down. It lives on nectar and searches for the sweetness of life. Its long tongue lets it bypass the often tough and bitter outer layer to find the hidden treasures underneath. Hummingbird is loved by the flowers and plants, for as it sucks the nectar from the flower, the plant reproduces and more of its kind are created. In many traditions, Hummingbird feathers have been prized for their almost magical qualities. It is said that Hummingbird brings love as no other medicine can, and its presence brings joy to the observer.
If you have Hummingbird medicine, you adapt easily to whatever situation you may find yourself in, and make the most of your new circumstances. You don't waste time looking back and wishing for "what was" for you are concerned with making the most of "what is". Also, you could never become addicted to any artificial stimulants, for you find joy in your own heart. You take great pleasure in spreading joy and love and beauty to all around you, and have the gift of taking that inner joy into new and different surroundings. You have a talent for finding the good in people, and are not put off by a gruff or abrupt exterior, for you know that, if you can only get beyond that tough outside layer, you'll find goodness and beauty inside. You may have a gift for working with flowers, maybe growing them to share with others, or using flower essences for healing. Aroma therapy may be your calling. You have high energy and a spirit that must be free. To restrict that wonderful, free, loving energy is to suffer great depressions and feelings of uselessness. Hummingbird must fly free in search of beauty, spreading joy and love to all it touches.

No, Truth, Beauty and Love (Aime)

Although it is entirely possible I got the words wrong.

First it was going to be "Plus que mots" (More than words) so that should give you a clue as to my motto-making ability... I like the French language but am not at all fluent.

Okay, thanks Entyqua, fixed it.

Though I don't understand why you would say "Je t'aime" as a verb but then "Amour" as a noun. (Curse the French and their stupid extra words...) I want to know what the word is when it is not necessarily romantic love, but something bigger and more universal. Perhaps I should have stuck with truth and beauty and left love out of it. Or simply said "Howdy Y'all!"
