A real simple question, what are the best words of advice you've been given so far in your life? I've had a lot of things told to me that made a lot of sense either right then or down the line. I'll start it off with a couple I've found to be true and helpful:

* Only worry about the things you can control, not the ones you can't.

* In 100 years, none of this will matter at all.

There are many more, let's hear from you all now...

Only worry about the things you can control, not the ones you can't.

Now that's excellent advice. My problem was thinking I had control.....over any thing other than my reaction to life. This is what I wished I had been taught a long, long time ago.

Here's one that still works after all these years.

"Never - say - Never."

Sometimes the answer is 'no'

Sometimes the best decision is to make no decision.

Silence is golden.

Not making a decision is a decision

You can bet your life on human selfishness.

"Follow your dreams."

Or, classic Sun Tzu;
"If fighting is sure to result in victory, then you must fight."

Regarding the material stuff in life- money, houses, cars, etc- "You can't take it with you....."

Not making a decision is a decision

Hey that's in a Rush song! ;) How about:

You learn as much from failure as you do from success.

Only worry about the things you can control, not the ones you can't.

That's one of my guidelines. But in my version it's "only discuss things you can influence and are willing to work on". Because my friends love to talk about politics and it's really annoying because none of them are actually gonna do something about it.

Here are a few more:

1. The famous KISS principle: Keep It Simple and Stupid
2. People don't change
3. Being the first is mostly better than being the last
4. Keep hotheads out of your team
5. Avoid making enemies
6. Decisions are made with a clear mind
7. Even when threatened it's always good to attempt a dialogue

Sometimes you eat the bar, and...well, sometimes he eats you.

Listen to your heart.

From the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaketh.

Listen to what others say, as their words have a tendency to speak their heart.

Being a doormat gets old.

Listen to your heart.
Good one! Here is the best one I've learned I think:

Regret is primarily about the things we didn't do or try. Not what we attempted and failed or succeeded at.

I have often regretted doing something my way instead of listening to others, parents included. Maybe I wondered how differently things would or could have worked out.

Hey that's in a Rush song! ;) How about:

You learn as much from failure as you do from success.

I will choose a path that's clear...

On that same note:

Sometimes our big splashes
are just ripples in the pool

Call me crazy, but some of those lyrics were the best words of advice I've received.

Another one I used and heard used several times in Literature class - Sometimes a tree really is, just a tree.

1.) "There's no such thing as a free lunch"
2.) "Nous sommes soit des rois ou des pions d'hommes" (We are either the kings or pawns of men)- Napoleon Bonaparte
3.) "אתה תִּמְשָׁל להתגבר על חטא" ("Thou mayest overcome sin")- John Steinbecks interpretation of a passage in the old Hebrew bible.
4.) "You'll be exactly the same in 50 years as you are today except for two things: the people you meet and the books you read."- Charlie "Tremendous" Jones.
5.) The law of reciprocity.
