Hey music afficionados!

I'm looking for the next great punk album!

Favorite punk bands of all time: Wire, Versus, Josef K. I also like the Sex Pistols, and Mission of Burma, and Galaxie 500 and Echo and the Bunnymen oddly enough even though they're arguably quite mediocre and not really punk after all. I've familiar with Joy Division, of course, I like them too.

Not really into new wave punk revival scene e.g. Franz Ferdinand, the Libertines. Once you've listened to the originals, it's just not the same. :/
Who've I missed?

No youtube videos if you please, my super-old, made in China, falling apart notebook can't handle it. Just names! Thanks!

Punk is dead bro.

Awwww, you don't want any new bands?

If you want retro rock, forget the punks. They were sloppy and incompetent. Listen to the great guitar shredders.

IMO, most of the guitar-shredding greats were severely deficient in other areas, like songwriting. Such an imbalance makes them like the punks in that they didn't bother to develop their weaker skills, in favor of showing off what they were good at. Punks had spirit; they lacked guitar originality. Metal bands had guitar proficiency; they lacked spirit, which is why so many of them sold out so easily.

So, you want music that rebels against society, upsets the status quo, is loud, not overly technical and is the voice of the young generation....

You do realize, where Punk has its roots, don't you?? :)

thanks all for reading and replying to this admittedly very self-serving thread.

some of the punks were sloppy, given. a lot of the stuff from the post-punk movement is much better fleshed out, however.

new bands suck. I like some of the new noisy stuff (eg deerhoof), but since it's all so derivative anyhow, why not just listen to bands that are dead?

AFI? Sorry, I'm not much of a punk rocker.

Early AFI was a lot punkier. For example:

They were my favourite band for most of my teenage years. Unfortunately watching that video reminds me of how much of a prick I must have looked back then. :(
