Oslo Norway appears to have been hit by a terrorist attack. A bomb was detonated at their Government HQ.

The blast, which occurred about 3.30pm local time on Friday, left at least a dozen people injured amid fears "hundreds" had died. At least two people were confirmed dead from the blast, which occurred at the government headquarters which house the offices of Jens Stoltenberg.

It remains unclear what caused the blast or if it was a terrorism attack. A tangled wreckage of a car was outside one building.

The damage appeared consistent with that from car bombs. Authorities had no warning of the attack.

Not far from Oslo, on Utoya Island, a man impersonating a police officer investigating possible bomb plots pulled out an automatic weapon and started shooting the camp members.

Andre Scheie told Norwegian broadcaster NRK that he saw "very many dead by the shore" of the camp on Utoya island, where the youth wing of the Labor Party was holding a summer camp for hundreds of youths. He said some victims were shot in the water after trying desperately to swim away. "There are about 20 to 25 dead," he said.

The two attacks appear to be related. We have some members here on the forums living in Norway, I pray they're doing alright. I hope they can apprehend any of the organizers of the plot, and stop any further plots that may still be in motion.
 
A man who is supposedly responsible for the shooting has been arrested. A witness said that a suspicious man, dressed as a police officer, whose shoulders seemed to indicate that he hid something underneath his clothes, entered a big car close to where the explosion occured, two minutes before it happened. One hypothesis is that these two are the same person, and that he acted alone. Apparently a video had been uploaded on YouTube 17/7 with the title "Wybuch w Oslo - Explosion in Oslo - 22.07.2011. Wybuch" (Wybuch is Polish for explosion). Two hours after the attack, the title of this video was changed to "hamsters". Witnesses from the camp shooting have described the suspect as a blonde, blue-eyed man. NRK said that the number of casualties are likely "much higher than reported". On a picture from Utoya I could count at least fourteen (edit: Overestimation. Others say they only can see four, what I thought were bodies were apparently clothes) bodies on the ground;hard to tell. My thoughts go out to the Norwegian people and everyone affected, especially the parents of the young teenagers on Utoya.

Was Hitler wrong or what! I haven't seen any reason for it all happening, except for a supposition that it might be about Norway fighting in the middle east. Any idea? :3

Norwegian PM now expressed more uncertainty than I had heard before. My Norwegian isn't exactly top-notch, and my head is sort of pounding... They have found one Norwegian man who is apparently almost certainly guilty, I think they said. You'd better not trust me on anything.

Shephard: On internet forums the immediate assumption was, of course, Islamists. But since the attacks seemed directed at Norway's democratic socialist party it would appear likely that this is some kind of ideologically motivated attack, right-wing extremist/Nazi nutcase seems plausible.

Oh, shut it. We're not all blue-eyed and blonde haired. My hair is naturally light brown, which isn't that common now that I think about but it. But still: shaddup!

But yeah, this is very sad news. =/ Hoping to find out more as to why this happened.
 
Saw this story today, pretty sad. Targeting a youth camp is just wow.

Yes, I went on a Norwegian news website just now and it said they've captured some "extreme right wing" person.

This is indeed very sad. The news called it "Christian fundamentalist attack". How did we ever come to this?

I doubt this is just one man's plot though. Getting so many explosives would require a group.

Tamagochi: It's very simple to get as much explosives as he got, on his own. The amount of paperwork required to buy tons of fertilizer is minimal, and there's plenty of ways to legitimate such purchases. His last recorded purchase was 6000kg / 13000~ lbs of Ammonium nitrate( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ammonium_nitrate )

There might be a second shooter. There's increased border controls because of that suspicion, but nothing has been confirmed so far.

The news mentioned he has a registered farm business. They are testing to see if the fertilizer used in the farming business was made for explosives.
 
My condolences to the people affected by this monstrosity of a nightmare. There are some very sick people out there in this cold world, and it will take a lot of warm people and a lot of time to try and overcome this. I hope the shooter is taken apart piece by piece. There is no punishment in jail worthy of what he has done.
 
This got war time font in the St. Pete Times newspaper, the same font used for a deceleration of war or in other examples national tragedies like assassinations or terrorist attacks. In other words we recognize the scale of the tragedy, may rest come to the families of the lost. A lot of people that day......
 
I am in shock from this... I am still unable to comprehend the amount of people that were murdered. It's such a tragedy... more than a tragedy.
