Seeing as it's been 25 years since East Germany and West Germany merged, I thought it would appropriate to point out just how great the DDR anthem was. It was called Auferstanden aus Ruinen (Risen from Ruins). Put politics aside and judge for yourselves:

Fun fact: DDR prime minister suggested that the united German state should merge the text of "Das Lied der Deutschen" (the current one, you know "Deutschland über alles") with the melody of Auferstanden aus Ruinen! I just tried, and it's creepy how well it aligns up.
