I'm walking around going about my business. I don't "escape" INFJ-ness. When I really think about it, I guess I don't really want to "escape" it. It's hard, but I'm proud.

(None of the "letters" or reasons above really resonate with me, by the way)

The INTJs have a similar thread on the forum I'm on, I like it...

I feel like a real INFJ when I talk to people no-one else wants to for their stupid childish reasons
IFLARI when I compose music / play piano
IFLARI when I joined this forum
IFLARI when I invent comfort mechanisms

i feel like a real infj when:

i take a test that tells me i'm an infj
i come in here and see my profile says i'm an infj
i read a description of the infj type

otherwise i don't give a rats ass about what the letters are.

d, f, h, and I need more!

Makes a lot of sense, since this is your primary, consciously preferred personality.

Perhaps you are feeling confined in your current stage and are simply ready to "escape" a little into a new stage. I also think INFJs have two modes of operation: social/growth mode and default ("recharge" mode). And your idea of "escape" may simply be a culturally defined commentary on your particular way of living.

When I try to make everyone around me feel happy.

I don't feel confined as an INFJ. Nor do I have any feeling that I want to "escape" into a new stage. I think you misunderstood me. I just meant that my INFJ-ness is with me at all times. It doesn't go away. It's a hard type to be, but I often feel proud to be this type. That's all I meant. :)

Sounds good, though slightly easier to be female INFJ than male, since there are, according to some empirical studies, more of them to run into who could actually converse with you about this INFJness.

The fact that it "doesn't go away" as a beautiful idea. This is how we view the world, no matter how people may try to bring us down to their terrestrial, temporal level.

Incidentally, would you say that ENFPs are particularly useless in helping you cope (even though NFs are good at understanding NFs -- yes, the key is understanding, but not necessarily encouraging in an effective manner)? No offense to the entire ENFP world of course. And INFPs sometimes do just as much harm as good.
