I'm a little confused how lulling a dog to sleep in freezing cold waters could help his arthritis?

I imagine if he sprinkled papaya enzyme into his pet's food, that that would help his dog more with arthritis than soaking him into a lake under cold temperatures which would only stiffen the joints and make the arthritis worse.
