Music is indeed very powerful, an art which many listen to. Music also has power in popular culture, inspiring and discussed by many. The theme of equality in music has always sparked my interest. The first one that comes to mind is Christina Aguilera's "Beautiful"

This video though criticized by some, gained major recognition by the LGBT community as it consisted of major scenes in favor for such equality.

Later are songs that are not directly stated but that someway encourage being "yourself" and that you are loved no matter what, such include the song "True Colors" which is considered to be a LGBT anthem.

Recently however I have been noticing this theme rise more frequently, many in fact are dedicated to the recent suicides.

This are all recent.

So my question is, how much of an effect do you think the music industry has on us? Do you believe this messages of equality have any effect?

Some argue that this music is not purely altruistic, regardless I feel it is a very nice effort by artists. Do you find any of this videos fake? Do you think a rise in videos with similar themes will consist?

Has this sort of theme always been around?

Very much so. There are a few videos that are less pretentious than others, but on the whole - no offense - I find most pop videos to be a significantly pretentious and superficial affair. And they lay it on so thick. *shakes head* it's just too much (for me).

Having said that, kudos for themes of equality.
