I used to get an individual cake slice and just keep it in the fridge and not eat it, because I strangely craved it more when there was none in the house than when there was a bit in the fridge. It eventually became known to my wife’s frustration (and occasional theft) as my “Lookin’ on cake.”

Lol yeah I get what you're saying. Determination or grit is required for some types of outcome and failing is part of the process which is the reason for doing something over and over expecting desired results. In that aspect insanity would be a misnomer. I can see insanity being used for description if such process cannot equal to the outcome of desired result remaining Unacheavable even through repetition and determination. But yet is still attempted on repeat in blind hope with lack of awareness that desired result can not be achieved..I think people are very often enamoured so much with the sources of proverbs and quotes, or their simple fame, that they often regard them as some kind of infallible truisms.
This is problematic because it can serve to entrench both the erroneous thinking of the quote itself as well as a lack of critical thinking more generally.
