What traits do you think you inherited from your family members? This could include personality traits, habits, or professional traits.

For example, I just realized today that since both my parents were in public service or helping professions, I may have inherited some of their traits just being around them so much. I didn't realize it until now. For example, I have a tendency to check in with people to find out what's going on. If a friend comes to me with a problem, I automatically want to give advice or help, things I don't think are natural traits, but learned from seeing them displayed in family.

How about you?

Great question! I was originally going to say that apart from physical traits, I've not inherited anything from any of my family....then thought about my father who died when I was quite young.

I think I've inherited his multi-cultural mindset, friendliness and a feisty nature. :tongueout:

I'm like Harry Potter, marked by the love of my parents.

(For real though)

I'm sad... The opening post is so peppy and the only thing that came to mind was the bad stuff I inherited. :(

It's ok. My question doesn't assume that everything always went well with our families and that our experiences with them were always great or good. It's more about what traits have we unintentionally taken from them that may have influenced who we are today.

Sidenote: No one has ever described anything about me as peppy :D Guess there's a first time for everything. ;)

Physical traits:
From my mother's side: My 2nd toe is longer than my big toe.
From my father's side: My eye color.

Personality traits:
From my mother's side: Extroversion, disobedience, rebelliousness, aggression (unfortunately), anxiety (though that skipped a generation)
From my father's side: Introspection, technical insight and ability, interest in nature and technology, intelligence (though that too skipped a generation)

Mother: almost everything in superficial physicality (seeing a picture of her before she was pregnant was scary to say the least), bad temper (though with me it seems to be less pregnant, or put in a different direction)
Grandfather: stubbornness, eye colour; allergies
Grandmother: scatteredness

Father: let's hope nothing. Though I do fear I have inherited some of his manipulative nature.
Father's family: asthma and allergies

Apart from that, I am a person in a way that is completely my own.

Infinite, when instructions are given like this:
What traits do you think you inherited from your family members? This could include personality traits, habits, or professional traits.
I just give my own spin to it. :D

From my mother: the ability to listen, to read emotions, and the love of my own space.
From my father: the ability to understand people's psychology, optimism, drive.

Great takes on the question. Like the format, so I'll follow it too. :)

Mother: accepting of others, sensitivity, generosity, nurturing instinct, hospitality, sincerity, artistic or creative interests, love of reading
Father: critical thinking, love of discussion and philosophical questioning, military grade regimented intensity (though that's lessened some), determination, seriousness

My mother and father are both fighters. They push on regardless of how bad things look. I have learned this skill from them. If I am backed into a corner and still have an opportunity to succeed, I will take it.

Let's see...

Mama: Fear of being used, worried how others see me, terrible sense of direction, good sense of taste and style, strong sense of family.
Papa: Weirdo, terrified by people, but also a desire to around them, intelligence, desire for mastery of certain topics.

A mixed bag for sure. Dunno if I got these off my parents, or if it's just my own special brand of crazy.

Mother: ESFJ
Father: I/ENFP

Father was a musician, nature nerd and artist. So am I.

Mother speaks her mind, doesn't compromise values. I get my J function from her.

I'm mostly my father, with minor exceptions. I'm more introverted and intuitive, I believe. He was more busy with his hands, and liked to work with tools. Possibly more of an observant (sensing) trait? I didn't inherit this at all.
