Slut Walks

Except that men don't rape women because women flash them or dress provocatively.
There is no law against women dressing provocatively and no one is advocating women walking around naked or with their bits exposed. It's missing the point.

Occasionally this is what you see on a fucked up Friday night near a student area or a night club where drugs and alcohol are present. It's an explosive mixture and that's exactly the point. Thus my experience dictates that yes, it is absurd. The entire picture is illegal so deal with it all properly.

When a woman dresses inappropriately for a particular occasion or environment, I find it an imposition. I don't want to be thinking about sex all the time--it's much more than a distraction. So, when a woman has her breasts hanging out, staring me in the face, I find it an annoying imposition. I may like to think of myself as cerebral, but I'm also biological. It's not only annoying, it's manipulative, an expression of sexual power, and most straight men can't help but notice and be distracted. All women know this whether they admit it or not. It's unfair.

This Answers it all ......thank you Dave.

I'm writing a paper on this for a persuasion class.
I thought I'd share this video on the subject here because I enjoyed watching it and I am curious about your thoughts on the subject.
(Plus, your thoughts might help me with my paper! Mehehehe!)

What do you think about this movement?
If you're a woman.. does it appeal to you or repel you?
If you're a man, can you take it seriously or is it absurd?

V I D E O: http://ww3.tvo.org/video/164179/slut-walks-and-modern-feminism

It's pretty long (over 35 mins!) but I hope you'll watch it.
The journalist from Texas is so cynical and sarcastic--I love it.

If you don't want to watch the video, here is an article to read:
http://www.excal.on.ca/news/slutwalk-toronto/
I've read a lot of replies on this thread. And a lot of them make me very angry, and really just upset. Granted, I did not read all the pages but from what I've read there was only a single reply on the 1st page advocating for the movement. I understand why people may criticize 'how effective' or 'not effective' it may prove, but people actively slut-shaming the walkers, and saying 'they are inviting rape' and being 'attention whores' it proves just how sad and how little we may have come.

There are many cases of where words were successfully able to be reclaimed, such as in the case of the word "queer" by the LGBT community, and in the case of "nig*a" by the black Americans. And these are just two examples. And it shows them using a word once derogratively called by, once used to defame them, that they can use proudly. And use to accept themselves, and accept their community despite hardships faced in the past, and negative connotations associated with that word.

No matter how a women dresses, it can never justify rape. If she says "no" it is simply "no". Given I am a female, and not a man, I acknowledge that men do have urges. But maybe, if we were to put the emphasis on boys, and telling them not to 'gangrape' or 'rape' or 'sexually assualt' or undermine a women, , instead of telling girls to cover up their bodies, not wear what they feel good or sexy in, and for god's sake not expose a collarbone all in the possibility she might lure 'innocent' men. Then, maybe, these urges could be controlled and these 'rapes' would be less frequent and 'rape culture' less prevalent.

I know this post was written a couple of years back, but like I stumbled on it today, I hope anyone also lurking and getting so enraged with the casual sexist comments, promotion of rape and of rape culture and the downplaying of feminism's importance. I hope that person who gets equally angry, can read my reply, and know there are other people out there, who are against these replies.

Yes. Wtf was that person thinking when coming up with the title for the OP? Disgraceful.
So women are responsible for men's misogyny and rape, like they have no control over themselves? Poor, poor things. ...
Count all the derogatory names you can think of for women, then count all the derogatory names you can think of for men.
The same behaviour is applauded in men and shamed in women. All it takes is a bit of thought to deconstruct all this nonsense. I'm glad I haven't read the whole thread, by the sound of it I probably would have thrown up by now. Women are sick of being treated as objects and bullied by men who are too stupid to know any better. It's a shame for all the other descent men out there too.
