I think you've done a fine job of expressing yourself. I also fully agree with you! Nihilism is lame. I think the true relationship we have with the universe is much more interesting and meaningful than being some teacher's pet anyway.
I do think we are special in some way... Not better than everything else, but special none the less. Of course, all life is the same in that regard.
It's sad to see those divisions you mention in the first paragraph. I think you're right about people discounting other's connections to the universe just because they don't match their own. We are interwoven into the universe on all those levels: through humanity, through kinship of all life and through the natural world. Denying some because an individual feels a stronger draw towards another doesn't seem to wise to me. To be sure, most probably will feel a stronger draw toward one facet but that's a reflection of our diversity and only serves to bring me more appreciation for the humanity side of things.
